Landmark Agreement for Solar Panel Manufacturing in Punjab
In a groundbreaking move for renewable energy in Punjab, the provincial government has entered into a significant agreement with a leading Chinese solar company. Under this contract, the Chinese firm AIKO will establish a state-of-the-art solar panel manufacturing and assembly plant in the region.
This development is part of the broader “Rising Pakistan” initiative, supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), aimed at enhancing the country’s industrial and energy sectors.
The contract was officially signed by Punjab’s Minister of Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, and AIKO’s South Pacific Region President, Alex Heng.
The minister emphasized the importance of this factory, which is set to meet the growing local demand for solar panels while also contributing to Pakistan’s export market. This initiative is expected to accelerate the province’s transition to sustainable energy and attract further foreign investments into Punjab’s solar energy sector.

Solar Energy Expansion Plans in Punjab
The Punjab government is also actively working on several other solar energy projects. One of the key plans includes converting 7,000 tube wells to solar energy, which will significantly reduce reliance on traditional power sources.
Additionally, a new scheme has been launched to provide solar panels to low-income households. This scheme, rolled out on August 14, allows citizens who consume up to 500 units of electricity to acquire solar panels through easy installment plans.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed officials to streamline the solar panel financing process, ensuring that more households can benefit from this eco-friendly initiative. The Secretary of Energy, Naeem Rauf, has been tasked with overseeing the smooth implementation of this scheme, which is expected to make a substantial impact on the energy consumption patterns in Punjab.
