Clarification on 6 September Holiday Rumors

The Ministry of Information has clarified that the recent social media notification about a public holiday on September 6 is false. This notification incorrectly claims that September 6, known as Defence Day, will be observed as a holiday this year.

The Ministry’s fact-checking team took to social media platform X to address the issue. They emphasized that spreading fake news is not only unethical and illegal but also a disservice to the public. “Spreading #FakeNews undermines public trust and is a serious offense,” the statement noted.

Public holiday-6 September(defence day)

Fact Check: No Holiday on Defense Day

According to the federal cabinet division’s official notification for 2024, September 6 is not designated as a public holiday. The last instance of Defence Day being recognized as a holiday at the federal level was in 1997. The federal government ceased this practice in 1998.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) has confirmed that the circulating notification is false and urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information.
