School Milk Program has been delayed!
The Punjab Education Department had set out with an ambitious promise—to distribute milk packets to primary school students across government schools in the Rawalpindi Division. This initiative, aimed at improving student health and academic performance, was expected to start off on August 15, coinciding with the reopening of schools after summer break.

Financial Hurdles Delayed the School Milk Program
Reports indicate that the Punjab government’s severe financial crisis, worsened by the allocation of a hefty Rs 45 billion for electricity concessions, has led to the postponement of this vital program. The much-needed distribution of milk, which could have been a boon for many underprivileged students, has been delayed, leaving schools empty-handed until at least August 31.
The Education Department has clarified that the expansion of the milk distribution program to other districts will hinge on the success of its pilot phase and the availability of funds. As things stand, there is no certainty when or if the program will be fully rolled out across the province.
Abdul Rauf Kayani, the President of the Rawalpindi District Primary Schools Teachers’ Association, voiced his disappointment over the delay. He stressed the importance of such programs in supporting the most vulnerable students and called on the government to make the necessary financial adjustments to ensure the program’s timely implementation.
Understanding the School Milk Program
The School Milk Program is one of the key initiatives introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as part of broader education reforms.
The primary goal of the program is to provide free canned milk and nutritious food to all students in government schools, thereby improving their health and enhancing their focus and academic success. It is a simple yet powerful idea—healthy students are better students.
